rates are going to have to go up. >> house speaker john boehner appears to be struggling now that the president and democrats are negotiating for a position of power. talking points memo points out republicans are used to getting 70% to 75% of what they ask for in these types of negotiations but now speaker boehner is going on and on about how he's shocked and amazed at president's plan and is refusing to offer a counter plan on the republican side. you want to talk about this or anything else, join us online at current.com/stephaniemiller. we'll see you with more after the break. kind of guys who do like reverse mortgage commercials? those types are coming on to me all of the time now. >> she gets the comedians laughing... >> that's hilarious! >> ...and the thinkers, thinking. >> okay, so there is wiggle-room in the ten commandments, is what you're telling me. >> she's joy behar. >> and the best part is that current will let me say anything. >> what the hell were they thinking? >> only on current tv. brought to you by geico. 15 minutes could s

that has a pen that can sign that, and it's something that john boehner has to take to the floor of the house and get past the floor of the house. the house is under republican control, so the president ought to be working with john boehner to find a solution that the house can pass and the president will sign if the president really was interested in signing it. the ridiculous offer by tim geithner really showed how completely unwilling this president is to look for a solution. >> well, i think no member of the house or the senate or the president should go on vacation before you've handled this. >> i think he has a vacation already planned. >> i know he does, but you know what? you guys have had a year and a half of knowing this problem exists, that everyone took off all the fall. the president and everybody ran for office who was up for office took off the entire fall. we paid all your salaries, and you didn't work, and now you've got this deadline of january 1, and you all think -- not sorry you, but you think you can take these expensive vacations or not expensive or take va

. the president, john boehner, could be getting set to talk again later this week. what advice would you give them on taxes? >> these are very minor issues, in terms of total revenue derived. but they are very significant to members. if you were to tell the bulk of the democratic caucus in the house that we were going to do something draconian to the inheritance tax, that could cost you a lot of votes. this is a carefully crafted a balanced package the house to emerge. all these issues need to be tested. a little focus group on the conference side. these can be symbolically important. they can blow the opportunity to do something broadbased and fundamental. do we end up with something close to balsams and because of that point? >> we would be better off if speaker boehner and the president did not publicly change their offers. hopefully, they are going to have to compromise. the more times you commit yourself in public, the harder it is to make the compromise. >> we will go around the former members of congress. do they cut a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff before we actually get there? >> i believ
